Headache

Like dizziness, headache is NOT a single condition, but a symptom that has variable causes.

For all patients presenting with headaches, we perform a thorough and comprehensive assessment to rule out medically urgent causes, and refer as appropriate.

If your headache is sudden and severe with the following symptoms, prompt medical attention is needed

Severe dizziness
Visual disturbance
Nausea and vomiting
Numbness on face or tongue
Numbness on the limbs

Difficulty speaking
Difficulty swallowing
Difficulty walking
Nystagmus (twitching eye movements)

Here are some common types of headache that we treat using combinations of manual therapy, acupuncture, progressive muscle relaxation, lifestyle and dietary modifications,  postural changes and functional exercise programs:

Tension Headache

Tension headache, also called stress headache, is the most common type of headache.

Common characteristics:

  1. Tense muscles on the head, neck, and shoulders
  2. Experiencing high level of stress or anxiety
  3. Poor sleep
  4. A habitually forward head and slump posture

Cervicogenic Headache

You may feel tension on the back of your head and upper part of the neck (may be one sided), or tension on the sides of your forehead.

Common characteristics:

  1. Neck joint stiffness and irritation
  2. Headache get worse with lack of head movement
  3. Tight muscles on head, neck, and shoulders
  4. A forward head and slump posture

Migraine

A common neurological headache that usually affect one side of your head. The exact cause is unknown.

Common characteristics:

  1. Most of the time you may feel tension on one side of the head
  2. Recurrent pulsatile type of headache 
  3. Nausea and vomiting
  4. Sensitive to light, sound, and smell
